The Minister of Economy, Employment, and Industry, Francisco Conde, highlighted in Santiago de Compostela, during a meeting about the Ignicia program, the contribution of this pioneering Xunta initiative to the cultural shift in knowledge transfer to the market.
Conde explained that Ignicia is supporting 16 innovative and disruptive projects from universities and research centers in the region. These projects are generating new ideas and solutions to stay ahead of the technological needs of the industry and Galician companies, particularly in the fields of biotechnology and ICT.
The program is part of the Xunta’s commitment to knowledge, supporting talent acquisition and retention, and providing a new opportunity for Galician researchers to develop technological solutions for Industry 4.0 and for the region’s productive and strategic sectors.
Ignicia is supported by the Fundación Barrié and aims to promote scientific research conducted in Galicia by providing visibility and facilitating its market entry. The program offers selected projects a path to maturation and financing for their consolidation. It seeks to ease the transfer of research results to the market by early detection of projects with innovative potential, thus contributing to the economic and social return on public investment in research.
Notable among the initiatives is Alén Space, the first spin-off created under this program, which was selected as one of the top 70 startups in Spain and won the TIC Galicia 2019 Awards.
